Faculty of Shabda Vidya (Faculty of Languages) consists of three Departments: Department of Tibetan Language & Literature; Department of Sanskrit; Department of Classical & Modern Languages (Pāli, Hindi, English) and a Centre for Teacher Education. While the faculty, along with the three departments, is one of the three faculties introduced when the Institute was first established, the Centre for Teacher Education, which started from 2014-2015 academic session, was established to train and nurture teachers according to the specific orientations of Tibetan Society. The faculty offers courses on Tibetan Language & Literature; Sanskrit; and Classical & Modern Languages at both U.G and P.G levels of Shastri (BA) and Acharya (MA) and four degree programs: two year B.Ed (Shikshashastri); four year integrated and innovative B.A.B.Ed./B.Sc.B.Ed (Shastri cum Shikshashastri); Acharya (M.A) in Tibetan Language & Literature; and Vidyavaridhi (Phd) in Tibetan Language & Literature.
PROGRAMME OUTCOMES:B.Ed./B.A.B.Ed.:
Understand basic concepts and ideas of educational theory. Build understanding and perspective on the nature of the learner, diversity and learning. Comprehend the role of the systems of governance and structural – functional provisions that support school education. Develop understanding about teaching, pedagogy, school management and community involvement. Build skills and abilities of communication, reflection, art, aesthetics, theatre, self-expression and ICT.
P.G. Acharya (M.A) in Tibetan Language:The objective of this programme is to advance students’ learning about Tibetan languages and to be the able to grab employment opportunity.
