Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies

Profile: Pema Tenzin completed his Acharya (M.A.) from CIHTS, Sarnath and thereafter did a 3 years Rigorous Training Course (M.Phil.) in Sanskrit from CIHTS. Subsequently, he was appointed as a Research Assistant in Research. He did his Ph.D. on Restoration of Nagarjuna’s Letter to a Friend into Sanskrit from Tibetan with its commentary by Acharya Mahamati from Sampurnananda Sanskrit University, Varanasi and got it published later as a book from CIHTS. He was initially appointed as Research Assistant in September 1985 and has been working on regular post since March 1987. He has, since then restored, edited and translated many books on Buddhist Philosophy and published them from CIHTS. At present, he is Professor and Head of the Translation Department in Research.
Professor Pema Tenzin has received two awards, namely Vividha Puraskara in 1988 & 1994 respectively in recognition for his two books from Uttar Pradesh Sanskrit Academy, Lucknow in the early stage of his service. He has participated and attended more than 50 National/International Seminars with and without paper presentations, has attended and participated in over 50 workshops and has published more than 40 articles in various journals.
