Multimedia Section of the library acquires, creates, manages and provide services based on Digital collection, Microfiches, Microfilms, Audio cassettes, VHS, DVD, CD collections of the library. The sections also offer services of Reprography, Scanning, Printing, Digital still photos, Live webcast, Managing digital content on social media and digitization of Rare Buddhist text in Tibetan and Sanskrit manuscripts.

Multimedia section keeps up with the changing needs and technology of the time. The section was actively engaged in micro-form in the decade of Eighties; in Nineties section worked with magnetic tapes and now-a-days this section is the epicenter of digitization work for the institute.

The Section is well equipped with the latest ICT infrastructure and the software to create, edit and manage digital documents. The Section is actively engaged in Digitisation of Rare manuscript and other precious documents to digitally preserve the surviving canonical texts. It also records, edit and preserve various academic programmes of the Institute in digital audio-visual and photo forms.

MICROFILM & MICROFICHE COLLECTION

The Multimedia Section has a rich collection of microfiche and microfilm documents. The first main micro collection of the section was three microfilmed recensions of the kangyur and Tengyur- Lhasa, Narthang, and Cone-That were sourced from the Library of Congress. From the outset, the department invested in microfilm technologies and has since accomplished the microfilming and digitization of many rare texts.

The resources of multimedia section includes tens of thousands of hours of teaching by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and many other eminent teachers and scholars, as well as audio and video recordings of seminars and conferences and the academic programmes of the Institute.
