Associate Professor
Dr. Dorjee Damdul did his graduation from Tibetan Medical & Astro Institute (1988, Men-tsee-Khang, Dharamsala) and served in the Pharmaceutical Department of TMAI. Since 1996, he has been working in various advisory and academic capacities at CIHTS, strengthening and furthering the vision of the Sowa-Rigpa Department. With over 30 years of academic and organizational experience he has authored many books, presented numerous papers at seminars and workshops and presently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Sowa Rigpa & Bhot Jyotish and Shilpa Vidhya.

Profile: Dr. Arun Kumar Rai has completed his Ph.D. from Faculty of Ayurveda, IMS, BHU. He is Assistant Professor (Guest Faculty) in the Department of Sowa-Rigpa in CIHTS. Psychopathology and Research methodology are his teaching areas and he is also interested in alternative medicine systems. He has presented many research papers in India and abroad.

Profile: Dr. Chime Dolker holds an M.D. degree in Tibetan Medicines CIHTS and teaches Tibetan Medicine in the Dept. of Sowa-Rigpa. She has been teaching to the BSRMS students for more than nine years. She has delivered several talks on “Concept of Tibetan Medicines” to the UTTI Teacher Training Institute and others institution.
She has also worked as In charge of Sowa-Rigpa Hospital for more than nine years. She manages the hospital systematically to maintain patient’s reports, staff’s rules and hygiene etc. She has treated many patients since 2007.
Her research interest is in Gynaecology and Paediatrics and her MD is on “Causes of Comparative study on Infertility”. She is pursuing her Ph.D. on ‘Management of perimenopausal syndrome in Sowa-Rigpa intervention’.

Profile: Dr. Dawa Tsering comes from the exiled Tibetan community and graduated with the first MD batch in Sowa-Rigpa from CIHTS. He has been interest in Sowa-Rigpa Pharmacology and Materia Medica. He has written his MD thesis on the same subject entitled “The Nomenclature of Sowa-Rigpa Materia Medica”. He has published research papers in the Sowa-Rigpa Journal and websites, and has presented his articles in conferences.
Currently, he is serving at CIHTS as a Guest Lecturer cum Pharmacologist at Ludrub Teaching Pharmacy under the Department of Sowa-Rigpa, and also pursuing Ph.D. in Sowa-Rigpa.

Dr. Lodoe Munsel, born on June20,1986, in the picturesque Kinnaur district ofHimachal Pradesh, embarked on a remarkable journey in the field of Sowa-Rigpa.He laid the foundation for his career by completing his graduate studies at CIHTSSarnath in2009, where he honed his expertise in traditional Tibetan medicine.With a deep commitment to the practice of Sowa-Rigpa, Dr. Lodoe Munsel spentseven years as a dedicated physician in Kinnaur, where he served his communitywith compassion and skill. His dedication to healing and well-being earnedhim thetrust and respect of those he served.In2017, Dr. Munsel expanded his horizons and knowledge, taking on a new role as aguest faculty member in the Faculty of Sowa Rigpa at the Central Institute of HigherTibetan Studies. Here, he continues to share his expertise and contribute to theeducation and training of the next generation of Sowa-Rigpa practitioners.Dr. Lodoe Munsel’s journey is an inspiring testament to his unwavering dedicationto the practice and teaching of Sowa-Rigpa, and his impact on the field is felt bothin his community and the broader educational sphere.

Profile: Dr. Tenzin Delek is a Sowa-Rigpa physician. He was born in Bylakuppe Tibetan settlement, situated in Karnataka state, south India. He attended his Primary school in his Bylakuppe settlement in Central School for Tibetans. He graduated Sowa-Rigpa BSMS in the year 2009 from CIHTS, Sarnath, Varanasi. After his graduation, he worked as a Sowa-Rigpa physician in MundgodDrepungLoseling Altruistic Medical Hospital, Karnataka. From 2017 till now, he is working as a Guest-Faculty cum Sowa-Rigpa physician in YUTHOG HOSPITAL under the Sowa-Rigpa department, CIHTS, Sarnath, Varanasi.

Profile: Dr. Karma Tharchin, from Mustang, Himalayan Region, graduated BSMS degree from the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS), Sarnath, Varanasi in the year 2016. After graduation, Dr. Karma Tharchin has been dedicated to serving at CIHTS as a Sowa-Rigpa consultant Doctor and assistant pharmacologist, simultaneously he is contributing to the field by teaching Sowa-Rigpa Pharmacology. He had the privilege of publishing several papers in the Sowa-Rigpa journal and successfully led several Medical Excursions and Department outreach projects.

Profile: Dr. Tsewang Sangmo holds a BSMS/Internship from the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS), Varanasi and currently working as R&D Assistant cum Herbarium In charge under the Department of Sowa-Rigpa with other additional activities i.e. consultant, assisting in therapy wing, annual report preparation of OPD, Yuthok Teaching Hospital etc.
Her present research focuses on conserving Minerals and Herbs samples collected from Trans- Himalayan regions of India during students’ medical excursions organized by Department of Sowa-Rigpa, CIHTS. In addition, she is engaged with filling up the voucher specimen both in Tibetan and English language. Her future projects mainly focus on DNA finger printing of plant samples, conserving their genes for potential propagation in times of rarity and extinction and GPS coordinated collection of specimens from different location to maintain standards for each collection in collaboration with botanist and microbiologist. In future, she is also interested to do MD course in the field of MateriaMedica.
Medical Officer
Dr. W.D Thakuri developed an early interesti n Sowa-Rigpasince childhood. Hedidhi s schooling from Nepalandtohave a background in both traditional medicine and modern medicine, he decided to joinCIHTSSarnathto achievehisgoal.He joined CIHTS in 2008 and graduated in 2018studying Buddhist Philosophy, Tibetan literature, Sanskrit, Tibetan Astro and Sowa-Rigpainparticular. In 2018, he received his BSMS degree.
Currently, he is working as a Pharmacopoeia assistant inSowa-RigpaDepartment, CIHTSand he mainly focuses on Sowa-Rigpa pharmacopoeialworksuch as conserving and preserving rare text book, restoring the disseminatedSowa-Rigpa pharmacopoeia booketc.Further, his researchcuriosityfocuses onthe scientific study/standards for the identity, purity, efficacy etc. of thetraditional medicine of Sowa-Rigpa

Profile: Dr. Sangye Khando graduated sMenpabKa-bChupa from Chagpori Tibetan Medical Institute, Darjeeling, West Bengal. In 2016. right after the graduation she served as a medical officer at Gajang Sowa Rigpa Welfare Society, Mundgod. Karnataka, South India. In 2018, she worked as a resident Doctor at Qusar Tibetan Healing Centre, District Kangra, Dharamsala, H.P, India and taught Tibetan Medicine at the Academy of Tibetan Culture, Norbulinga Institute, Dharamsala, HP, India. Since 2019, she is working in the Teaching Hospital as a Sorig Therapist of the Yuthok Sowa Rigpa Hospital, Department of Sowa Rigpa, Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, deemed to be University, Sarnath, Varanasi, UP, India. Profile: Dr. Ngawang Kunchen was born in Tibet and did his schooling from Serjung Tibetan School. In 2006, he arrived in India and studied further in Tibetan Transit School, Dharamsal. He joined CIHTS in 2010 as a student of Sowa-Rigpa and obtained his BSRMS degree in 2020. Since then, he has been serving in Sowa-Department, CIHTS as a Pharmacopoeia Assistant.

Dr. Nyima Samdup Gurung comes from Himalayan region of Nepal village called Jharkot, MuktinathMustang. Ms. Youngdrung Wangmo Rokaya was born in Nepal at Dolpaalso known as Dolpo. In the year of 2000 she came in Indian forthe study with her father and 2 Siblings.
