DICTIONARY DEPARTMENT
Chinese, and other eastern languages. Efforts by Mahapandit Rahul Sankrityayan and others brought forward some Sanskrit texts, but they were often incomplete and error-prone. In the light of this situation, contemporary scholars formulated an extensive plan. The main objectives of the plan are as follows:
To prepare refined editions of available Sanskrit texts.
To restore lost Sanskrit texts to their original form with the help of their Tibetan translations.
Encourage high-level research using materials available in ancient
Make Buddhist literature available in ancient eastern languages accessible in modern languages.
To achieve this ambitious plan, the creation of various types of dictionaries has been deemed necessary. Accordingly, the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarnath, Varanasi prepared a grand dictionary project that includes the provision to create two types of dictionaries: 1. General dictionary and 2. Thematic dictionary.
DICTIONARY DEPARTMENT – PROJECTS COMPLETED
- Bhota-Saṃskṛta Kosah, 16 volumes published in year 2005.
- Bhoṭa-Saṁskṛta Dharma-Saṅgraha-Kośapublished in 2006.
- Bhoṭa-Saṁskṛta Sandarbhanirdeśikā-Kośapublished in 2008.
DICTIONARY DEPARTMENT - ONGOING PROJECTS
- Under the Thematic dictionary category:
Āyurvijñāna Kośa (4 volumes) has been handed over to the Publications Department for publication and - Jyotiṣa-Kośais in its final stage.
- Tibetan-Sanskrit Lexicon of the Abhidharma-Kośa is also under the process.
- Under the General dictionary category:
Bhota-Sanskrit Chatraupayogi-Kośa is ongoing. - Tibetan Hindi-Kośa.
